Asteroid mining is the primary method of obtaining raw materials in Far From Home. Players must first transfer an ship to the . Once transfered, the ship becomes available for deployment via the interface.
Each sector contains a unique distribution of asteroids. Scanning reveals the available targets, which vary by category and composition. Asteroids may contain composite ores or compound ices - materials required for advanced production.
After selecting a target, the ship uses STL propulsion to approach and engage the asteroid. The extraction rate and efficiency depend on ship class, extractor type, and asteroid resistance.
Industrial production transforms raw materials into usable components, fuel, and construction parts. This process begins after a successful mining expedition, once extracted resources are returned to a station with active refining and manufacturing facilities.
Ship customization allows players to modify and enhance the capabilities of industrial vessels using modular components. Each industrial-class ship supports a range of upgrade slots based on its tech tier and hull class.

From the , players can select a destination and initiate a warp jump using FTL fuel. Upon arrival, the ship enters the sector’s resource zone, where asteroid fields become visible.
